Introductions

George on the left, Sona on the right.                                                                                                                                                                                   George is a partially hairless Rex, with variegated colouring.  ‘Rex’ is a term which describes curly or wavy fur, you may notice that her whiskers are very curly.  Because Rex fur and the hairless trait are both recessive, sometimes rats with both traits will occur (it is a little bit like when humans have green eyes).  Her colouring is variegated, because roughly half of her is brown and half is pink (those areas would have white fur if she wasn’t partially hairless).                                                                                                                                                    Sona is a light grey Self Dumbo, which means that she is all one colour (‘Self”), and her ears are set lower on the head (Dumbo).

George LOVES people                                                                                                                                                                                                             See the curly whiskers?

Seven is cautiously curious                                                                                                                                                                                                    Seven is a hooded Rex Dumbo rat, which means that she has two colours, white and something else (in this case really dark brown) in the pattern of a hood.  She also has brown spots in a stripe down her back as part of her ‘hood’, this is the difference between a ‘hooded’ rat and a ‘caped’ rat, the ‘caped’ rat does not have the colour running down their back.  Seven’s ears are set lower on her head, and thus look bigger, like an elephant’s, hence ‘Dumbo’.  Her fur is also a little curly, a trait which is called ‘Rex’.

Some of the girls refused to cooperate with photo time, so I will post photos and introductions of them later.

If you’re curious to know more about rats, and about the many variations, just drop me a comment, and I’ll be glad to talk about it!  I love my girls!!

  1. :-D They are awfully cute, aren’t they?

I’m sorry you’re missing your littles, though. It’s always so hard, since their lives are so short- have to really enjoy them while they’re around. And it’s so easy to love the wiggley little beasties, isn’t it?
