Spun Stardust

I was once
a figure in the glass
staring at a portrait of someone that I didn’t know
a spectre staring back at me with cold silver eyes
and a heart which couldn’t thaw, couldn’t beat
a dream, a picture, a figment of someone else’s hopes
I was once
a figure in the glass
now I stand here staring back at that portrait
cold silver eyes angry and alone
with a heart that burns, that yearns
for a dream, a wish, a hope of my own
